Key Considerations From an Employment Law Perspective
WTC organized a Webinar on Impact of COVID-19: Key considerations from an employment law perspective on 6th May 2020 wherein Mr. Neeraj Dubey, Partner, Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, discussed the impact of COVID-19 on employers and employees and the key considerations from an employment law and practice standpoint. His session focussed on the understanding of the several orders/notifications issued by Ministries at central government level, state government and district administration and the consequences thereof for any non-adherence. Since the lockdown has its own economic consequences and many companies and employers with operations in India are facing challenges in coping with this fast-changing situation, Neeraj touched upon the aspect of how the employers are generally obliged to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for their workforce by taking reasonable steps to ensure the prevention of COVID-19 outbreak at the workplace. The common concerns of employers/employees that were discussed in details includes remote working, leave management, lay-offs, reduction in pay, safe traveling, compensation to infected employees, etc.
