Talk on the Dark Web - What, Why, How and for Whom

In a joint session with IEEE(The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Kochi Sub-section and the Internet Society (ISOC) Kerala Chapter, WTC Kochi conducted a talk on the Dark Web. The programme happened in the second floor Conference Hall of WTCK on 28th December 2017 (Thursday). The dark web is the World Wide Web content that exists on darknets, overlay networks which use the Internet but require specific software, configurations or authorization to access. The dark web forms a small part of the deep web, the part of the Web not indexed by web search engines, although sometimes the term deep web is mistakenly used to refer specifically to the dark web. Mr.Satish Babu, Chair, APRALO at ICAN was the Speaker. He is also the former Chairman of IEEE Kerala and also the Founding Chairman of ISOC in Thiruvananthapuram. Mr.Satish Babu spoke on the anonymity of the ‘Dark Web’ and how it has evolved over last few years. He also touched upon the security aspects as well as the business uses of the dark web. Mr.Babu concluded his talk expressing his views on how this area could develop in the future. The programme was attended by mainly IT employees of Infopark and nearby Companies. Earlier Ms.Mini Ullanath, Chair-IEEE Kochi Subsection gave the welcome address and Mr.Vivek George delivered the vote of thanks.
