With the deadline for filing GST Annual Returns for FY 2017-18 fast approaching, World Trade Center Kochi organised a seminar on “Practical Insights into GST Annual Return Compliance” on 11th June at Four Points by Sheraton.This will be the first time companies would be filing it after the GST roll out that happened in July 2017.BDO India LLP was the 'Knowledge Partner'. Mr. Pullela Nageshwara Rao, Chief Commissioner-Customs, Central Excise and Central Tax was the Chief Guest. During his inaugural address Mr.Rao mentioned that "GST tax regime will prevail and there will not be any extension to the 30th June deadline for filing the annual returns. He urged all companies to file their returns in time .He also warned them by saying that there are systems in place which continously monitor the Assessees and every company is being watched. Chief Commissioner remarked that it is fortunate that the same Government has come back to power and this means the ambiguities surrounding GST will be cleared and will have a much better clarity after the Union budget. Mr. Dinesh Kumar, Associate Partner from BDO India and Mr.Sankar, Manager - Indirect Taxes from BDO were the other speakers. The sessions helped the participants to stay updated on the latest in Annual Returns. The speakers took them through the return filing process which was helpful. There were several queries on the practical aspects which were clarified by the speakers. The programme was attended by finance and accounts professionals from different companies. There was representation from retail,Manufacturing,Textiles,Automobile,Spices,Rubber,Telecom,IT,Coir,Cashew,Consultants as well as from a few Government departments. Dr.Bose Nair, Vice President-WTC delivered the welcome address and Mr.Vivek George, Deputy Manager-WTC proposed the vote of thanks.
